I am Zizheng Wang, a determined social reform doer, a passionate storyteller, and an inquisitive artist. I am a person extremely interested in promoting education equity, exploring new things, and conveying sentiments through literature. I have been working in rural China for around 2 years and witnessed firsthand education inequities, which solidified my determination to keep exploring solutions to social challenges, while contributing to promoting public good. I am also passionate about telling stories, whether are they my original fiction stories or my daily experiences. I consider literature to be more than just a medium to convey sentiment and thoughts, but also my voice to increase the volume of underrepresented groups. I am also interested in artistic explorations. I perceive art as a quiet attic of my own to express my feelings with music, color, and knit-work.

A passionate storyteller
Clips of story of Christina Rossetti I wrote in Grade 10

My journey of fandom creation set sail after a unique reading experience. In grade 9, I read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, retelling the story of Jane Eyre, but changing the protagonist to “the madwoman in the attic”, Bertha Mason. Looking back the entire story, Bertha was reduced to a madwoman in Rochester’s description. Therefore, I started retelling the story from a feminine perspective, creating stories for women merely shed light on, like Mary Shelley, Christina Georgina Rossetti, and even “The Red Woman” in Game of Thrones. In more than 2 years, I have created 50k+ words of such stories and received 80k+ views and likes, exceeding top 1 in popularity rank in two tags. I have also co-founded a writing group of 190+ participants. Together, within 6 months, we have created 150+ works, drawing attention to underrepresented females.

Writing has already become a part of my life, a space for me to reorganize my thoughts. I write down my perceptions regarding different matters on a daily basis. I have written articles criticizing the education system's sole focus on meritism and weekly diaries recording the growth of the Tambourine Volunteering Initiative on WeChat Official Account, gaining 13,700+ recommendations.

An inquisitive artist

In my free time, I indulge myself in artistic exploration, believing that it brings me peace of mind. Started learning piano since in Grade 3, I have completed Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Piano 5th grade and Music Theory 6th grade. I have also explored playing the guitar and harmonica.

My exploration of art goes beyond music and instruments. During the pandemic, the lack of outdoor activities made me feel disconnected from the world. It was drawing that helped me reconnect to the real life. I use heavy oil pastels to express my feelings. In Grade 9, heavy work load gave me mounting pressure and anxiety. Therefore, I picked up knitwork to help me regain inner peace.

The world is my oyster, which I with swords will open.
